Joomla vs. Drupal

Filed under: General, Joomla, Other CMS, Websites — sirwaffle @ 11:50 am

Well the decision finally fell and was in favor of Joomla. The decision to redevelop our department’s website that is. First we intended to try and build the website with Drupal, but that proved to be an enormous ordeal, so we fell back to Joomla.

I don’t know ’bout others but i found Drupal to be very hard to set up a website with. First off the way websites are structured and built-up still seems to escape me, whilst in Joomla i find it to be very intuitive to build up a well-structured website.

Furthermore expanding your website with all kinds of tools and modules is much less user-friendly in Drupal than it is in Joomla. Eg. internationalisation – building a website in several languages which is a requirement for us – is a breeze in Joomla: install Joomfish and you’re in! Also installing an alternate editor or other modules is much easier than in Drupal. The straw that broke the camel’s back for me was the simple fact that it seamed to be impossible to install an alternate editor to be able to edit your content in a fashionable way. I reckon that if something that easy already went wrong, well, what would it be when i got to more complicated stuff?

So Joomla it is. I installed a fresh 1.0.13 and now it’s template-design-time.
